I have observed, sketched and painted birds all my life.
Some of my earliest memories are sitting beside my father on the edge of a lake, waterhole or coastline with a pair of heavy binoculars. Counting birds, observing coloured leg bands, measuring wing spans or weight, and helping to recuperate injured specimens.
I have prepared a few notes on the inspiration and painting progress of different paintings. Each artwork brings its own challenges and rewards. Yet every painting is first inspired by the birds. The success of a painting is the culmination of a personal journey which begins with watching and observing the birds in their natural environment.
