Birds and Nature

An enduring fascination with feathers…

I spent the majority of my childhood living in two incredible national parks, Coffin Bay and Kakadu. After years of birdwatching beside lake and bay, or wading through ankle-deep mud to sit near a billabong with my binoculars and sketchbook, it is clear why a great deal of my art is devoted to birds and the landscapes that support them.

About Megan

Hi, I’m an artist, researcher and teacher. I divide my time between Canberra and anywhere else that may inspire my art. I focus on fine detail and accuracy cultivated in authentic experience of the subject, an approach honed by three decades of sketching in the field. While drawing plein air can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding. Shortly after this image was taken, I saw a wild dingo pacing the riverbank. I forgot about the heat, insects and mud as this beautiful animal paused to watch me work then went on his way. When I’m not “out bush” gathering visual references for new paintings, I’m in the studio working on my next exhibition or private commission! Read more

Let’s hang out
